Convention seems to be that Christian sites have an apologetics forum.

I think it would be good to have a forum where people can ask hard questions about other peoples' beliefs, or post trying to advance beliefs that they think could use some challenging.

I nominate that we just name the forum "Apologetics Accepted" and open it to anything where the OP is intending to challenge a position, or offer a position to be challenged. I'd expect a focus on Christianity and related positions, but I am uninclined to be dogmatic in this matter.

Fine with me.

I do have a question though. If someone point blank asks, "Is this a Christian forum?" -- is it? I mean, are we all willing to say yes?

I believe this is "a Christian forum".

It was founded by people who identify as Christians with the intent of promoting Christian beliefs and doing so in a manner consistent with Christian teachings.

Being Christian, I believe that Christianity can win on a level playing field. I am not particularly worried about competing evangelism, and I think that the common practice of shutting it down comes across as portraying a fear that Christianity isn't a defensible position.

Yes it is. In that we, the founders or somesuch, have agreed to try and run a forum based on Christian ideals such as loving your neighbor as yourself, not keeping a record of wrongs, and such ideals that so many of the Christian forums find excuses to ignore. It is a Christian forum but we will not attempt to define Christianity at any point. I may state what I think being a Christian entails but it will never a barrier for anyone or an official stance of the site.

I like the way you put that. In fact, you should post it somewhere for newbies to read. :)

I'm cool with this idea. It'll be interesting to see what sort of debates crop up.

Speaking of debates, will there be a Formal Debate area? I'm in favor; I think formal debates are a great way to test ideas and flex the ol' brain muscles, and they're generally quite civilized.

I am all in favor of a Formal Debates forum.

I hate Formal Debates because Flesh99 always wins despite the fact that I am right. ;)

Other than that, the forum sounds fine.

I haven't figured out how to edit the FAQ, but it will eventually happen.
