Original Content: it's just been my experience that people who don't want special powers are the best people to give them to.

Gee, well in that case, why not give access to a nuclear bomb to anyone who doesn't want access to it?

Dumbass.

What's next? Will you report someone if they use the word "doodyhead"?

Just put me on your ignore list already.

Let's get one thing crystal fucking clear: you are not my friend.

Understood?

An enemy? I don't think I've ever been an enemy.

You're not the brightest apple on the tree, are you?

Well, you are my enemy now.

You're not the brightest apple on the tree, are you?

Well, I'm not a member of MENSA, but I'm not an idiot, either.

Name-calling seems generally inappropriate.

Eh... if you are not going to censor I would guess its something that will have to be put up with.

Eh... if you are not going to censor I would guess its something that will have to be put up with.

But you can also tell other posters that it is inappropriate and unhelpful.

Except for truly dedicated trolls, most people can't keep up page upon page of flames. These things just die out.

I agree, especially when it's in the form of childish ranting.

Hey CaDan! Did you know I'm an "enemy"?

Aren't the Klingon words for "enemy" and "friend" the same anyway?

:D

I tend to ignore that stuff.

I guess rules will be made as the board develops?

Just trying to stay informed.

Miss Lee, your cookies make you the enemy of every man. Especially if they've seen your dungeon :)

I think seebs has said it better but... when the community is there, the rules are not necessary. When the rules are necessary, the community is already unhealthy and the rules are being prescribed as a salve.

Annabel Lee gets all the cool titles. Though unfortunately, this one's from a sub-par Dean Koontz book (yes, I know that's redundant).

I also vote for "inappropriate" for fifteen, Alex.

I tend to agree that it's inappropriate, but it hardly rises to the level of a YIWT split.

Thanks for the laugh, though.Your responses crack me up. I know you don't care and that it certainly isn't what you're aiming for. I just really enjoy your responses for some reason. It's like you're able to be what my inner snark wants me to be. So I appreciate it.

Heh. You're welcome. It seems that conflict always finds me on message boards, so I've mostly given up being non-snarky while posting.

But since I don't, I hope it is ok with you if I just read what you post for my entertainment. Perhaps I'll take some notes on the proper snark behavior so I can start practicing. :) Anyway, I hope you've had a good day.

I have. My Honors Thesis student did a fantastic job of defending today. :)Then you must be one good professor. But really, congrats on your student doing well. I can't imagine what it is like to see someone go through the process from your side of the coin (I've seen students do it as a friend, just never as their advisor or mentor or anything). To see them do it well must be nice.

Thank you. :) Yes, it was very satisfying. He spent about a year and a half working on it, and we'll soon trim some of the fluff out of the thesis to condense it into a publishable paper. There was a tiny aftertaste of bittersweetness, though, because this student is, by far, the best undergraduate in the program, and I don't see another anywhere near as good as he is anywhere in the pipeline. And he's graduating soon to move on to a (fairly good) graduate program.

Awesome! You should start a thread about the paper over in Cold Equations, now I'm all curious. :)

I haven't forgotten about this request, seebs; I've merely been mulling it over. On one hand, I don't know if I want to give up my pseudonymity to everyone on this board. On the other hand, at least one person on this board knows my actual name and where I work...

I'm torn.

It's a tough call. I had just assumed you were "out", but it occurs to me that I am probably the only person here who knows your email address.

Your call. I think people here are pretty decent, but I'm a bit of an optimist.

What have the JW's ever done to deserve such a horrible fate? :P

I thought it was the mormons that you could send to people's houses. Or can you send both? Add in some Seventh Day Adventists and it'd be like shooting fish in a barrel.

I think the thing to do would be to invite them all at the same time, then take them around back and show them a large swimming pool full of mud, explaining that you've had a major revelation: A truly omnipotent God must have dominion over all things, and mud-wrestling is a thing.

And remember that what we have here is a fish bowl, with the big googly eye of Google on the other side of the glass.

Ah, but if you have a common enough name, you can get some pretty weird results if you google yourself. A former coworker consistently pulled up some professor at a Texas university when he googled himself. It was amusing.

True, but I have an uncommon enough name that the only other person that Google brings up that is still alive and has my first and last name is someone who is obviously not me.

You can send both. In MN, we got JW's. Now that I am within walking distance of a Mormon temple, I get Mormons (two pairs in eight months).

So I keep hearing about these folks that go door to door to convert you. Never having had it happen to me, I was sort of unaware of what it would be like. Then one day I was at my mother's house and these two guys in suits in the middle of a Texas summer were walking door to door. I told my mom we better hurry and go inside to avoid having to talk to them because I didn't feel like converting that day. As we were walking inside the man shouted "we're not here to sell religion, we're giving out passes to the new movie theater in the neighborhood!" heh.

So I got free movie tickets, but I've still never had someone come to my door to talk about God.
