Got this from the weight loss sight I go to.

Water or coke?

WATER

#1. 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
(Likely applies to half the world population.)

#2. In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak
That it is mistaken for hunger

#3 Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as 3%

#4. One glass of water will shut down midnight hunger pangs
for almost 100% of the dieters studied in a University of Washington study.

#5. Lack of water, the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue.

#6. Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain
for up to 80% of sufferers.

#7. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on
the computer screen or on a ! printed page.

#8. Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%., and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer. Are you drinking the amount of wate you should drink every day?

#9 Try to drink half of what you weigh, in ounces of water each day.
If you weigh 150 pounds, then drink at least 75 ounces of water each day.

COKE

#1. In many states the highway patrol carries
two gallons of Coke in the trunk to remove blood from
the highway after a car accident. (kinda creepy)

#2. You can put a T-bone steak in a bowl of Coke
and it will be gone in two days.

#3. To clean a toilet: Pour a can of Coca-Cola into the
toilet bowl and let the "real thing" sit for one hour, then flush clean.
The citric acid in Coke removes stains from vitreous china.

#4. To remove rust spots from chrome car bumpers:
Rub the bumper with a rumpled-up piece of Reynolds Wrap
aluminum foil dipped in Coca-Cola.

#5. To clean corrosion from car battery terminals: Pour
a can of Coca-Cola over the terminals to bubble away the corrosion.

#6. To loosen a rusted bolt: Apply a cloth soaked in Coca-Cola
to the rusted bolt for several minutes.

#7. To bake a moist ham: Empty a can of Coca-Cola into
the baking pan, wrap the ham in aluminum foil, and bake.
Thirty minutes before ham is finished, remove the foil, allowing the drippings to mix with the Coke for a sumptuous brown gravy.

#8... To remove grease from clothes: Empty a can of Coke into the load of greasy clothes, add detergent, and run through a regular cycle. The Coca-Cola will help loosen grease stains. It will also clean road haze from your windshield.

FOR YOUR INFORMATION:

#1. the active ingredient in Coke is phosphoric acid.
It will dissolve a nail in about four days. Phosphoric
acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major
contributor to the rising increase of osteoporosis.

#2. To carry Coca-Cola syrup! (the concentrate) the commercial trucks
must use a hazardous Material place cards reserved for highly corrosive materials.

#3. The distributors of Coke have been using it to clean engines of the trucks for about 20 years!

Now the question is, would you like a glass of water or Coke?

I try to drink at least eight glasses of water a day.

But I really do like the taste of diet coke even though I know it's awful

thanks for the reminder. i have seen this before on a list i am on for post-op wls patients, but i had forgotten it. i am horrible at drinking water, drink part of a soda once a month or so. my poison of choice is iced tea, unsweetened, occasionally flavored with various herb teas. sometimes decaf, most often not. that is how i stay hydrated living in the desert (2-3 quarts of iced tea a day)

I have always been a tea drinker too. I have hot tea in the morning and I have been drinking peach or rasberry tea. I don't like mine real sweet though. I have started using splenda since my hubby is diabetic.

I want to see the actual studies on these, as many of their claims seem quite suspect.

Yes, the acid in coke is very good at acting on metal-oxide, but we're not comprised of metal-oxide.

Off th top of my head, I don't know what in Coke would act as a surfactant to aid in the removal of grease.

Probably orange oil.

Our bodies, specificly our digestive tracts, are suberbly designed to handle acids. Bases, on the other hand, are wicked. Our stomachs routinely handle a pH of around 1. Put a steak in some stomach juice and it disappears in a few hours, not days. A pH of 12 or 13 on the other hand is intestinal suicide, not literal suicide cause you wont die, but you will be fucked up for life, a life without a digestive tract, and that could be oh, twenty years or so.........then the cancer will get ya.

So kids, never, I repeat NEVER, try to commit suicide be drinking Drano or lye. It wont kill you, but it will fuck you up for life. First the esophagus is sloughed of its squamous epithelium, then it scars and strictures, making it totally useless. The stomach may survive if the acid can neutralize the base. So if someone takes Drano, NEVER induce vomiting, let the stomach handle it. After a Drano insult, the esophagus is so bad that cancer will set in, in about 20 years. Bad scene.

So Coke or Water? Either one is good, but keep the Drano away!

Debunked. *ninja sound effects*

I recall an episode of that-show-that-tries-stuff-and-debunks-it which tried the steak and teeth experiments, as well as the battery terminals and chrome cleaning, and found them all to be total bull. I wish I could remember the name of the show so I could look for it on Google Video, it was all kinds of funny. The hosts reminded me so much of me and my bro.

Coke still inside the original container is sterile and in the absense of clean water can be used to irrigate a wound.

I once soaked pig teeth in various beverages and measured the amount of deterioration in the enamel at set intervals. Coke was by no means the worse offender. That duious honor went to milk.

Someone probably stole the steak out of the coke in the original experiment and claimed that the coke disolved it...............stomach acid also contains trypsin, an enzyme which disolves protein. It takes more than phosphoric acid to dissolve steak......
