i've been working for about three months with him. We work about 3 days a week for 15-20 minutes a day. Today everything seemed to click. I'm very excited for my little guy :D

Keep it fun! That's more important than a treadmill of progress at this point. Plenty of funny picture stories. And lots of trips to the library.

That's wonderful. I think it's extremely important for parents to read to their children and to encourage them to take interest in books for themselves. It makes a big difference later in life.

Awesome! Congrats to him and you!

Some of my earliest memories are of my mom teaching me to read. She made cards with a little picture of an object around the house and the word for it, and it was great fun to connect the word with the object. Part of what made it fun and easy was that she didn't just draw a generic lamp for 'lamp', she drew the stained glass lamp hanging over the kitchen table. For 'tree' she drew the apple tree in our back yard, and so forth. Photos would work just as well, I think. She also included me in the process of making the cards, so it was a little craft project we did together.

I always follow the child's lead. If he seem's fustrated we stop whatever we are doing and do something else.

I love the library!

My husband is a wonderful artist! He can easily draw all that stuff. We make letter projects because my art skills are limited. We made a glittery "G" before and a noodled "N". things like that.

I bet your mom had just as much fun teaching you to read as you had learning :D I love seeing my kids get it for the first time :D

Yep, my mom had lots of fun with it, which I think is part of why I loved it so much. Kids love to see their folks smiling.
