We all know that certain things are going to be required in and by the rules at CF such as the Nicene creed and the rule against blasphemy. With that in mind, any one else care to contribute to a complete revamping of the rules? I doubt anything will be done with our efforts since as far as staff is concerned, we are the problem, but I for one would like to see something workable and just hashed out. Any takers?

I'd be pretty happy just to see an accurate rendition of the rules actually being enforced. Imagine an attempt to articulate the functional definition of "Christian" the site uses...

That's what I mean. Write them so that they are clear, concise and minus all the extraneous dictates, and equitable. We have a great balance of staff, members, Christians, non-Christians, etc here that all POV should be well represented.

1.1 No Blasphemy
You will not use the names or titles of God or Jesus (in any language) as expletives or interjections. You will not refer to God, Jesus Christ, or the Holy Spirit in a demeaning, degrading, or insulting way.
I suggest:
Christian Forums is first and foremost a Christian forum. Please maintain a attitude of respect towards the God of Christianity. For example: the use of the names and/or Titles of God in any aspect - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as expletives or interjections is prohibited.

When my reply goes through on that thread, I expect a damn good response from some of you.
It's the one going like, "Why? The rules are fine the way they are."

I don't see how this makes sense, or how the conclusion follows from the premise.
When did CF do confirmation? How do we determine whether the forum has any opinions at all, let alone whether it is Christian?
Also, since when is the coercive use of force a sign of a Christian? If someone said "I am a Christian, therefore, I will absolutely prohibit the use of the following language in my presence", I'd think he was joking! I'd expect something more like "Please avoid this, as it offends me." Use of temporal power over others is one of the things I tend to regard as a likely sign of lack of interest in core Christian values.

It has to stay in some form or another. Do you have a better suggestion or an improvement upon my wording?

No, I just observe that the rule is based on an outright falsehood, and given that, it will always lead to nonsense.
The problem is not that we didn't come up with the right way to make a soft and fluffy place built entirely around avoiding any hint of pushing the boundaries of peoples' comfort zones, it's that the underlying idea of trying to make a forum where mainstream Christians are totally comfortable, no matter who has to get hurt to make this happen, is never going to yield anything of value.
There is a reason we do not see Jesus spending a lot of time telling His disciples how important it is that they stick to environments where they are comfortable and safe.

Seebs, it's a matter of respect. I certainly would NOT go onto a muslim forum and bash Allah or on an atheist forum and bash FMS. In truth - I think respect should be the standard all around.

No one is say that this should be the case. At the same time, you don not see Christ telling his disciples to become floormats and or that we should accept disrespect in our own houses. CF is by it's very name a Christian forum.

I agree that it should be the standard.
What I don't agree is that the standard should be backed by force.
There are options between being a doormat and crushing people to the ground with jackboots. A respectful environment cannot be created by force, because force is based in a lack of respect.

So, now do you care to explain why Nehemiah Center is a cult? :p
Actually, I suspect a well-written paper on the subject could do more than any rule re-write. (that, and subtle cults are really hard for me to catch!)

PG is part of a larger national organization according to his website - have you ever checked out that organization? Start there.

... or on an atheist forum and bash FMS. What a totally stupid argument. Atheists made up the FSM. They have no emotional interest in whether you bash it or not because it is a fake, and it has always been intended that way. Jimminy.
I said it over a year ago, maybe two now ... instead of telling people what they shouldn't do ... why not tell them what would be appreciated? Like love their brothers and sisters.

Interesting thought, but didn't God write his rules - THOU SHALT NOT . . . . .? Ex 20:7You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not acquit anyone who misuses his name. But I do like the idea of linking a negative with a positive - Tell them what not to do and what to do instead.

If there was a point to include the FSM, it was a silly one. The point is that respect and courtesy even to thing that we see as "silly" should be extended to the beliefs of the master of the house.
